Data Rights Notice
Last updated: August 18, 2026
Depending on where you live, how Mystic Owl processes information, and whether a particular privacy law applies, you may have rights concerning your personal information.
Available rights
Subject to applicable law and exceptions, your rights may include:
- confirming whether we process personal information about you;
- accessing categories or specific pieces of personal information;
- correcting inaccurate personal information;
- deleting personal information;
- receiving a portable copy of certain information;
- withdrawing consent for future consent-based processing;
- objecting to or restricting certain processing;
- opting out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising;
- opting out of certain profiling used for legally or similarly significant decisions;
- appealing a decision concerning a privacy request; and
- using an authorized agent where permitted.
Mystic Owl's symbolic quizzes, reflective tools, and editorial content are not designed to make legal, employment, housing, credit, insurance, health-care, education, or similarly significant decisions about users.
How to submit a request
Submit a request through the Data Rights Center available through the website footer or email legal@mysticowl.net.
Describe:
- the right you want to exercise;
- the Mystic Owl service or account involved;
- the email address or other identifier associated with the service; and
- enough information for us to understand and process the request.
Do not send:
- passwords;
- full payment-card numbers;
- government identifiers;
- medical records; or
- information that is not reasonably necessary for the request.
You do not need to create a new account solely to submit a privacy request.
Privacy choices for advertising
Where applicable, users may opt out of processing treated as sale, sharing, or targeted advertising through the Your Privacy Choices control available through the website footer.
Where required by law, Mystic Owl treats a legally recognized Global Privacy Control or similar opt-out preference signal as a request to opt out for the browser or device sending the signal.
Marketing-message opt-outs are separate:
- use the unsubscribe link in a marketing email; and
- reply STOP to an existing Mystic Owl SMS program message.
Verification
We may need to verify that a request relates to the person making it.
The verification method depends on:
- the type of request;
- the sensitivity of the information;
- the risk of unauthorized disclosure or deletion;
- whether the user has an account; and
- the identifiers reasonably available to us.
We will not disclose account-specific information when we cannot reasonably verify the request.
Opt-out requests that do not require identity verification will be processed without requiring unnecessary personal information, subject to fraud-prevention rights permitted by law.
Authorized agents
Where applicable, an authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf.
We may request:
- evidence of the agent's authority;
- confirmation directly from you; or
- information reasonably necessary to verify the request.
A recognized browser or device opt-out preference signal may act as an authorized opt-out mechanism where applicable.
Response timing, extensions, and fees
We respond within the period required by applicable law.
When permitted, we may extend the response period because of complexity or the number of requests. We will provide notice of an extension when required.
Requests are generally processed without charge.
Where permitted, we may charge a reasonable fee or decline to act on a request that is manifestly unfounded, excessive, repetitive, fraudulent, or outside an applicable legal right.
Denials and appeals
If we deny or limit a request, we will explain the reason when required by law.
Where an appeal right applies, reply to the decision or email legal@mysticowl.net with the subject line:
Data Rights Appeal
The appeal should identify the original request and explain why you believe the decision should be reconsidered.
You may also have the right to contact an applicable privacy or data-protection authority.
Non-discrimination
Mystic Owl will not unlawfully discriminate against a person for exercising an applicable privacy right.
A requested deletion or restriction may make a feature unavailable when the information is reasonably necessary to provide that feature.
Local browser information
Some Mystic Owl tools may store progress or entries only in the user's browser.
When information remains exclusively on the user's device, Mystic Owl may not possess it and may be unable to access, retrieve, correct, or delete it through a data-rights request.
Users can generally remove local browser information by:
- using an available clear or restart control;
- clearing Mystic Owl site data in the browser; or
- using a private browsing session.
Deleting browser data may remove saved progress.
Backup and legal-retention limitations
Deletion from active systems may not immediately remove information from encrypted backups.
Backup copies will be removed or overwritten through the ordinary backup cycle unless preservation is required for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or law.
We may retain limited records necessary to:
- document that a request was completed;
- maintain an unsubscribe or suppression record;
- comply with law;
- prevent fraud;
- establish or defend legal claims; or
- protect system security.
